if it wasn’t for shitty shows…DANCEHALLHORNSOUND! would’ve never happened.
i have played a great many shitty shows in my life, but some of the shittiest have been on tours with one of my best friends in the world, and my better half in Boyfriends INC, a rapper from Florida named Bleubird.  When a crowd is particularly slim, i try to pull out some stops as a meager thank you for the handful of devotees that did show, and on one fateful night, while playing in a barn in Dundee, Michigan to a crowd of about 5…i debuted the mixed tape version of “Trouble Hunters” and this version of “Two Years Before the Mast”.  At the end of the night, after the party was all busted up, bird and i were petting a cat and talking about odds & ends when he suggested i record these gangster rap reduxs of my songs.  The bug was in my ear and a short while later i set the plan in motion.  This version of “Two Years Before the Mast” over the classic Outkast song, “Elevators (onp 86 mix)” was always my favorite, but because of the slow tempo and melancholy nature of the track, it never found a place on the actual mixed tape.  So here i am, giving it away to you.  if you haven’t copped DANCEHALLHORNSOUND!! yet…it would make my day if you did.  if you already got it, you should tell a friend to get it…i am proud of it and i want as many people to hear it as possible.  Afterall, that is why i make all this music…for people to listen to it.  i hope you enjoy listening this, perhaps on a late night bike ride alone through the warm summer air, or while you some sunburnt dreamboat are nodding out together on the couch…right after a party has died. -Andy (Astronautalis)
