The Strokes announce 'Angles' tracklisting
It's been a long time in the making, but The Strokes' fourth studio album is most definitely coming. After having been given a firm release date of March 22nd, as well as the title Angles, there's only one mystery left regarding the long awaited album, and that is the tracklist. Good news for Strokes fans, cause the tracklist has been revealed! The 10-track album will be preceded by the release of the album's first single "Under Cover of Darkness," which will be released in February. In more Strokes related news, guitarist Nick Valensi had an interview with MySpace Music, where he revealed some information about the making of Angles, the future of the band and more. You can check out the tracklist and read what Valensi had to say after the jump!
It seems that Valensi was, at one point, the only member of the band entirely dedicated to making a new album.
"No one in the band was writing songs (for the Strokes) and I found myself trying to rally the troops,” Valensi says. “I thought that might excite them… but it didn’t.” Now, with a new album set to drop on March 22, the Strokes are back. This time around, however, they took a new approach: The 10-track LP, and fourth overall studio release from the New York crew, sees each band member dipping his hand into the writing process for the first time. It’s surely an exciting moment for long-deprived Strokes fans, but as Valensi explains, when you’re dealing with this band, new music hardly guarantees a solidified future. “Hopefully it won’t be another five years before our next album comes out,” Valensi says. “At this point it’s out of my hands.”
He also had a little something to say about pleasing fans who've been waiting so long for the album...
"I feel like it’s gonna be impossible for us to make music that’ll live up five years of nothing. It’s kind of that Chinese Democracy syndrome. You take that much time off.. no matter what you do it’s not gonna be as good as people want it to be. I feel like no matter what the record is, or how hard we worked on it, or how much we like it, it’s not gonna live up to people’s expectations only because of those five years between the last one and this one. If we had just released this a year or two after the last one, I imagine it would have gone better."
... and also gives us a look into the future of The Strokes.
"We’ll see. At this point it’s out of my hands. I really just want to make another album really fast after this one. I just wanna kind of focus on new music for the future and just getting something out."
