[News] Johnny Marr Parts Ways With The Cribs
Yesterday news came out that Johnny Marr was parting ways with the Wakefield band of brothers, The Cribs. It came after he worked with the album on at least one album in its entirety, Ignore the Ignorant, which hit the shelves back in 2009. Not to mention he toured with the band relentlessly.
In a statement Johnny stated he is "working on new solo songs. I'll be putting out two records over the next year or so and doing more film soundtrack work." This is after last year he performed, with the help of a 20-piece orchestra, the Inception score live so this step for him may be the direction he wanted to go in anyway.
Today the Jarman brothers have broken the silence saying:
"There were definite intentions of continuing on together and making another record..We even went into the studio with Edwyn Collins again last spring and started recording some stuff, but it just wasn't really working...We were all pretty burnt at that point and that is why we decided that after eight years and four records we should take some time off." Going on to say the formation of a 3 piece was working again; "During that time we all intended on working on other projects...At some point late last year we just casually got together out in Portland as a three-piece and it was so much fun. Johnny had started working on a solo record in the time off, and it just seemed like the right time to go our separate ways."
The boys didn't seem to hurt by the news though as yesterday Ryan Jarman tweeted this picture, with the phrase. "Guess I'd better buy a new guitar then!". Got to love these guys. Watch this space as the boys finished the statement off by saying, "We have a bunch of new songs and are embracing the lo-fi again. It never was about fancy studios and LA and all that. We are back in our usual environment and feeling good about it. We've got everything we need." Album four is hopefully in the works after their summer commitments.
