[Watch] YACHT - "Utopia" / "Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)" (Video)
Yesterday, YACHT released their fifth studio album Shangri-La, which includes the two singles "Utopia" and "Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)." Today, the duo unveiled the joint video for both singles, which was conceived and directed by Renee Daalder. One half of YACHT, Claire L. Evans, explains the idea behind the video:
Some might recognise the spatial environment of Utopia as being a 3D visualisation of the ideas of the radical architecture group Superstudio. Superstudio, founded in the late 1960s in Florence, Italy, essentially worked against their own discipline, arguing that architecture and design formalised unjust social divisions in concrete space and induced people to consume unnecessarily. Their vision of Utopia wasn't an ideal city or a perfectly organised arcology with room for everyone - it was a world without buildings, a life without objects. They dreamed of nomadic communities living the warm and human aspects of life on a vast, impersonal grid."
