[Night Out] FIDLAR @ Webster Hall (09/26/2015)
Ah, to be a #teen again. I knew that the crowd at LA band FIDLAR's show would be full of some rambunctious younger characters, but I was not adequately prepared for the intensity level of said crowd. I'm trying to recall the last time that I was at a show where the floor wavered underneath me to the point where I thought it was going to give way. I think it was Pearl Jam at MSG back in 2010? At any rate, between the ground quaking and ducking many a crowdsurfer during their opening number, I was at peak stress levels after their 3-song limit in the photo pit was over.
Upon reuniting with my guest for the evening, Brittney, I was quickly equally saddened and enraged to hear that a fellow showgoer had taken the liberty of reaching under her skirt and feeling her up in the short period of time that we were apart. It's hard to watch the generation behind me lose sight of how important the community aspect of show-going. More importantly, it never ceases to infuriate me that although women are statistically financially more supportive of music than men that we continue to be subjected to a lack of common courtesy. It was hard to shake the vibe that brought to the evening, what with the smell of puberty lingering in the air, so we bowed out before the bandfinished up their energy-packed set.

[Listen] FIDLAR - "Red Right Hand" (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Cover)
Cast your mind back to 1994, for me I was just starting School, learning how to colour in, maybe tie my own shoes too via some Rabbit Ears rhyme. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds released "Red Right Hand" in 1994 though, and since then there have been numerous covers. Back in 2009, Arctic Monkeys added it to their live set, then released it as a B-Side to "Crying Lighting", remember that? Today though we get another take on the track from our favourite new LA band, FIDLAR. Check out the slackers interpretation below. Perfect for a morning break from whatever it is your supposed to be doing right now.
In case you missed it too, check out their brilliant Nick Offerman featuring video for "Cocaine" over here.
[Watch] FIDLAR - "Cocaine" Feat. Nick Offerman (NSFW)
In Parks and Recreation, Nick Offerman plays the straight talking Ron Swanson. One of my favourite quotes from him in the show is: "Never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing." That's exactly what FIDLAR have done in their video for "Cocaine" in which they've enlisted Offerman's drunken self. Downing as many 40oz bottles of beer as he can carry, we see him pissing on absolutely everything in sight once drunk. Cars, people, the Hollywood sign, plants. He seriously doesn't hold back. The video also does start with some censorship but by the end I think they got bored and you just see prosthetic penis everywhere so it's probably not NSFW unless you work in a sex shop or something. In which case this is probably tame. Hit play after the jump and let the good times roll out of the zipper.

[Watch] FIDLAR - "Max Can't Surf II: The Zuk Trip" (Video)
What year was it again that Marty McFly has a hiverboard? Pretty sure it wasn't 2013?! Still, that's not stopped Brandon Schwartzel and Max Kuehn of FIDLAR ripping through, well, the entire world on their acid-trip induced hoverboards. They finally then end up in space firing lasers from their hands, obviously. So, it's Friday unless you've forgotten! No doubt you're ready to cut loose and enjoy the weekend with some beers and what no so why not start it a little early, I'm sure your boss won't mind. Maybe don't drop the tab of acid though. Happy Friday folks!
FIDLAR's self-titled debut is out now on Mom & Pop.
