[SONG OF THE DAY] LP Giobbi - "Meet Again (feat. Little Boots)"

IT’S
VIBE
OCLOCK
ON
FRIDAYYYYYYY 🎉💃🏼🕺🏼

Y’all know how much love I have in my heart for LP Giobbi. In addition to her consistently dropping back to back bangers, it’s been so inspiring to watch how her FEMMEHOUSE initiative has really taken off. I’m constantly seeing new sessions coming up to help empower women with the tools to be their very own badass.

Today we’ve been blessed with a new track, a piano house #posiparty anthem titled “Meet Again”. The track itself came together pre-covid while LP was riding a train in Vienna on the way to a show last winter. Then while in lockdown, she sent it over to Little Boots to get her creative take. As timing would have it, Little Boots had just recently heard Queen Elizabeth II’s speech where she implored the nation to keep hope alive during these dark times we’re living in, reassuring everyone that, “We will meet again”. The rest, as they say, is history. It’s such a simple line, but I felt pulled to share it as a meaningful message across the world to everyone feeling lonely, disconnected or sad,” shares Little Boots.

LP has also shared an accompanying video for the song, featuring a montage of simpler times from her childhood. There are a lot of adorable *BB Giobi* moments in the montage, a lot showcasing just how much she was raised around music (but you already knew that because you read my interview with her 😘).

If Mark Ronson’s recent cover of Richard & Linda Thompson’s 1974 classic, “I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight” (as seen on diSKOAver weekly) was hitting you right in the Yearning For The Dance Floor Feels™, “Meet Again” is the [for now] bedroom dance party banger you need to get you to the other side of this pandemic. It definitely has me daydreaming of my next outing with LP Giobbi filling the floor with her selects and originals. That last show at Elsewhere dancing and hugging with TC from Crush Club and LEFTI was def one for the books.

Speaking of bedroom dance parties. LP Giobbi is keeping busy on Twitch during the week, spinning hella house a whopping five days a week. Schedule for all of her upcoming livestreams are below in addition to tonight’s FEMMEHOUSE session.

[Watch] Mark Ronson & Katy B - "Anywhere In The World" (Video)

Coca Cola, the official sponsor of the upcoming Olympics in London, have enlisted the help of Mark Ronson to create a song for the forthcoming event. The creative producer has used unconventional means to create his song, using things such as the heartbeat of Russian runner Kseniya Olegovna Vdovina and the punches of Taekwondo athlete Maria del Rosario Espinoza to emulate certain aspects of his anthemic track. Katy B also joins in as the vocalist on the track, making the already epic song much more grandiose. As well, if you are interested in seeing exactly how Ronson created each aspect of the single, including the use of athletes, head over to Coca Cola's website to see the "Making Of" video.

[Watch] Mark Ronson - "A La Modeliste" Feat. Mos Def & Erykah Badu

Remember Hyundai's RE:GENERATION project from last year? The ball is still rolling and a visual featuring Mark Ronson, Mos Def and Erykah Badu has hit the web. It sees them in the studio performing a track titled "A La Modeliste". [CMJ 2011] RE:GENERATION Documentary Previewed At The Hyundai Re:Mix Lab

The first of five of Hyundai's Re:Mix Labs showcases took place last night in New York City. Along with events in Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles, the company is spreading the love for gaming, music and technology.

Last night they previewed the trailer for Amir Bar-Lev's music documentary Re:Generation, which was followed by a Q&A featuring himself and the legendary DJ Premier. The documentary features five of the hottest DJ's in music, including DJ Premier, Skrillex, The Crystal Method, Mark Ronson and Pretty Lights, exploring and examining the history of five musical genres that are completely out of their realm. For example, Skrillex met up with The Doors' Ray Manzark and Robby Krieger along the Venice Beach boardwalk, and then later collaborated with John Densmore on "Breakn' A Sweat"—this is also the first original recording featuring members of The Doors since 1978.

The event, which included a DJ set by none other than DJ Premier, kicked off the first of many Re:Mix Labs events that will occur over the next couple of months. Re:Generation is set for release in February 2012, and the five tracks recorded for the documentary will be given away for free via a DJ Mixer App, which launches in November.

Stay tuned for more coverage of events from the Re:Mix Labs and Hyundai.

[Sunday Pickup] Daft Punk, Justice, DJ Shadow, Moby, Mark Ronson, Basement Jaxx, Portishead & Many More Essential Mixes Circa 1993

The Essential Mix Series on Radio One dates back to 1993, when on the 30th of October, Pete Tong first put out a mix on the show that became the first of hundreds that would grace the airwaves. Nearly 18 years on and they're still going strong as UK phenomenon James Blake put in a great sounding mix featuring just yesterday in the early hours debuting some brand new material from himself along with a wide spectrum of other musical genres. After posting the JB Mix I received a tweet from some friends over at Another Whiskey For Mister Bukowski sending me in the direction of 900+ Essential Mixes dating way back to 1993! 1993!

In the space on two hours I'd gone from one end of the Essential Mixes history with the latest guest spot, way back to the first ever one from Pete Tong himself. I'd of been but a little 4 year old back in 1993, dressed in a Thunderbirds outfit jumping off of my drum kit trying to fly before subsequently falling through the snare drum my Mum had just moments before told me I'd break. I may not of been aware of the vast array of electronic that the club scene was thriving on in the 90's, but, through the joy of ageing and the magical times that we live in we can check out a vast array of music we may have missed whilst trying to fly as a child via the internet.

This bumper sized Sunday Pickup contains Essential Mixes from some of the biggest DJ's the world has ever seen. Sets from the likes of Daft Punk way back in 1997. Fitting after we just 2 days ago got to hear their previously unreleased track from 1994, "Drive". Other mixes come from Justice, Flying Lotus, Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim, DJ Shadow, Moby (1994), Digitalism, 2 Many DJ's,  Mark Ronson, Magnetic Man, Portishead. I could go on to list all 900+ mixes but that would be pointless as you are all at home having a lazy Sunday (maybe), so spend it listening to some classic tracks dating back to 1993 right up until 2007. Have a scroll below and happy listening it should take you about 109K plus hours to get through it all. Better get started! (After the jump there's a few track numbers to help you find the sets in the title eg DAFT PUNK at 743!)
