[WATCH] Miss Eaves - "Belly Bounce"
“Ever Since I was 13 people have asked me if I am pregnant. This caused me to be extremely ashamed of my body/belly and try everything in my power to eliminate it (HELLO AB ROLLER!) I want to live in a world where everyone feels free—even joyous—expressing themselves genuinely, being truly comfortable in their bodies and minds just exactly as they are today”

While we’re on the subject of dance filled music videos today…
Y’all, when I say that I love Miss Eaves, I’m talking like, more than just typical artist adoration where I wanna put her in my hoodie pocket and keep her safe. I think at this point I would crawl over hot coals and/or broken glass for a mile if it meant she’d be safe and happy indefinitely. There’s so much to love about this truly one of a kind DIY artist. Her willingness to be vulnerable and commitment to authenticity regardless of whatever life throws her way is something we probably all should be taking hella notes on. Also I appreciate that we both really wanna be good at speaking French but we’re convinced we totally suck at it.
Further cementing her place on my Most Precious People list, last week she dropped a video for a song, “Belly Bounce”, which comes from her upcoming EP How It Is, which drops on July 10th, 2020. The video, which was a collaborative effort that includes videos of fans of all shapes and sizes dancing gleefully along to the track, is her way of responding to years of invasive questions about her body.
“Ever Since I was 13 people have asked me if I am pregnant. This caused me to be extremely ashamed of my body/belly and try everything in my power to eliminate it (HELLO AB ROLLER!). I want to live in a world where everyone feels free—even joyous—expressing themselves genuinely, being truly comfortable in their bodies and minds just exactly as they are today.”
DO YOU SEE WHAT I’M SAYING ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL SHE IS!? 😭 As someone raised in the era of the Calvin Klein models that were referred to as “heroin chic” in their hay day, the idea that there are teens out in the world today that have the opportunity to be exposed to this level of fierce body positivity just warms my heart so much. I feel like we all need to become door to door EAVESangelists.
“Excuse me [sir/ma’am], do you have a moment to hear the good word of Miss Eaves?”
Like seriously.
Especially right now where everyone keeps bringing up that they’re putting on the “dreaded COVID 19” aka 19 pounds of extra lovin’ to carry around, we need to be kinder to ourselves and this is the bop for belly lovin’.
If you need more body positivity bangers so you can further spread the gospel of Miss Eaves and are new to the fandom, be sure to give “Thunder Thighs” a listen from her 2017 album Feminasty while you’re at it. If I’m being honest that song definitely kicked the door wide open for me to the journey to self-acceptance for my wounderous thunderous thighs.
Now go give that woman your money on Bandcamp RIGHT NOW.

VIBE O CLOCK ON FRIDAY
ON VALENTINES DAY NO LESS!
I know given my activity on the rest of the internet today that you might assume that I would have selected some over the top romantic bop on this polarizing over commercialized holiday, but I chose to go another route today. To be very painfully clear: I am NOT ant-Valentines Day by any means.I love the fuck outta love! Instead, I decided to go with something that reflects my impending Valentines Day plans that brings me and plenty of New Yorkers a lot of happiness on a daily basis: a song about bodega sandwiches.
Leave it to Brooklyn’s legendary cheeky wordsmith, none other than Miss Eaves herself, to pen a song that playfully loves on bodega sandwiches in a way they’ve always deserved. As she shared about her latest track, “Stacks”, “I wanted to write a song that reflected my real life. I don’t have a lot of money, but I still want to stack something. And sandwiches are delicious!”
Legit though since love is in the air today, have you ever had a bodega deli dude take a liking to you before? You wanna talk about stacking sandwiches…. they will make them bad boys thiccc. lolololol
If sandwiches aren’t your thing but you’re still fine with being single, she’s got a song for that, too! (“Paper Mache (Single AF)”) On the other hand, if you’re hoping to find love in a hopeless place and plan on hitting the apps hard tonight, there’s “Left Swipe Left” as well.
[SONG OF THE DAY] Miss Eaves - "Exposure Kills"
Just in time for the sun to start coming out and ridding folks of their seasonal affective disorder Brooklyn badass Miss Eaves dropped her latest EP, appropriately titled SAD, which actually stems from her personal struggles with the disorder. Worry not, the internet, for in true fashion for the multimedia artist and rapper, she’s packaged up her experience with her signature witty lyrics and playfully catchy beats.
I can’t get over how perfect this EP is. Like really, I have mad kindred spirit vibes with Miss Eaves on this from start to finish. Opening track, “Exposure Kills” is the ultimate anthem for freelancers everywhere and is essentially the dancetastic way of saying “fuck you, pay me”. While I don’t consider myself to be an introvert by any means, I was definitely the embodiment of “Homebody” on more occasions this winter than I’d like to admit. Then there’s “Left Swipe Left”, which I will be spamming to every one of my girlfriends who are as fried on dating apps as I am.
Today marks the kickoff of her month+ long tour along the east coast before hopping over for some dates in Europe. Def go out to catch her live and grab a Thunder Thighs pin or 20.
