[Listen] The Decemberists - "One Engine"
The Decemberists, after having had an incredibly successful and busy 2011, are already going strong in 2012. Having recorded with famed Irish folk legends The Chieftains on the Bob Dylan cover "When The Ship Comes In," the Portland indie rockers are going even further by contributing to the official soundtrack for the film adaptation of The Hunger Games. With The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Kid Cudi, Neko Case, Glen Hansard, The Low Anthem, The Secret Sisters and many more contributing to the 16-track soundtrack, it's sure to be impressive. Today, The Decemberists' track for the album, titled "One Engine," has been made available to purchase on iTunes and can be streamed below, courtesy of Hypable.
Along with the release of The Decemberists' contribution, reports say that Arcade Fire's track "Abraham's Daughter" will be released on March 20th, three days before the release of the full soundtrack. After the jump, you can take a look at the full tracklisting for the album.
[News] The Decemberists Announce Live Album
Since the release of their sixth studio album The King Is Dead, Portland indie-folk rockers The Decemberists have released three EPs, including an iTunes session, the Long Live the King EP, as well as their Live at Bull Moose EP. Now, the band are releasing yet another addition to their post-The King Is Dead collection. On March 13th, the band will be releasing their first-ever live album, titled We All Raise Our Voices To The Air (Live Songs 04.11-08.11). The live collection will include 20 songs taken from 12 different live performances from last summer, with songs taken from their entire discography.
The album will be released as a two-disc CD, vinyl, as well as digitally. After the jump, you can take a look at the entire track listing for the album.
[News] The Chieftains collaborate with Bon Iver, The Decemberists, and more
The Chieftains are to celebrate their 50th year in 2012 with a new studio album featuring collaborations with a host of, as they put it, "like-minded musical visionaries and kindred spirits." to answer your obvious question of "who are these kindred spirits?!", here you go: Titled Voice of Ages, it's set to feature the collaborative efforts of Justin Vernon and Bon Iver, The Decemberists, Carolina Chocolate Drops, The Civil Wars, Paolo Nutini, The Low Anthem, The Secret Sisters, and Lisa Hannigan and many more. To me, it sounds like a musical cauldron of promiscuity that will result in musical babies of joy, but that's just me.
Along with that the band have announced a rather large tour of the U.S. for early next year rolling into the UK later in 2012 for more dates. Check them out after the jump.
Voice of Ages is set for release on the 21st of February through Hear/Concorde.
