Chromeo To Release World's Smallest Record
The world's most electro-funktastical duo in the universe Chromeo are breaking world records with their new upcoming record, Drive Time. How? By being the new world's smallest record, clocking in at 183 seconds, which beats out the previous record by almost eons.
What possessed them to make the world's smallest record? It started with a desire to pinpoint and extract the soul of their music. "People make such a big deal about the White Album because it was so long," explains Dave 1. "We just went to the essence."
The result? An astounding 55 tracks in 3 minutes that are an all killer/no time for filler microcosm of Chromeo's signature sound. That's an average of a little over 3 seconds per track! The insanity!
As you may have guessed, the music is a huge part of the album. However, the band took the opportunity to explore politcal themes for the first time in their career. "When we first came out they made this big deal about us being a Judeo-Arab duo, and we're not seen as a political threat. But I decided to take a stand," says Dave 1.
A song in particular that sticks out is "Turn Left", which is a disco anthem that screams defiance. According to Dave 1, "My father's a big Bob Dylan fan and I grew up listening to this "protest music". This is the Chromeo version and it's just called "Turn Left". He added, "We felt our fans were lost and needed some guidance. They needed to know when to turn, and where to turn, and what direction to turn. It's our role as entertainers to guide them."
