#skoaradio 10/31/2015 liner notes

When a new song comes out of nowhere and suddenly becomes your favorite.

Happy Halloween broadband buds!
Gotta say, the jams in this week's #skoaradio are so good it's SCARY! hahahaha oh boy am I bad at #relevantcontent sometimes but WE'RE HERE TO TALK MUSIC ANYWAYS SO WHATEVER. I dug up some spooktacular new tunes this week from Sinden, The 1975, Jamie Woon, MALAA, and more so it's a pretty damn good mixtape if I do say so myself. Lots of new music out this week so I hope you weren't planning on buying your family any expensive Christmas gifts because you're about to exceed your budget on music for the zillionth time.

Don't forget you can grab the Spotify playlist at the bottom of this post so you can treasure the order I painstakingly put these songs in. Or you can hit shuffle. Whatever.

Until next week!

[Listen] M.I.A. - "Baby"

A previously unheard M.I.A. track has hit the web and it's a bass throbbing simple number. It's titled "Baby" and features some funky guitar lines along with thrusts of bass paired up with M.I.A. laying down her vocals in a staccato fashion. It goes a little awol towards the last quarter of the track with the guitar sounding like a phone dialing a number. The track was apparently written for Madonna and Maya took to twitter stating:

"who ever LEAKED THAT BABY song should know that ive never heard this version B4 it sounds crazy different 2 wht i [wrote] for madonna...im not mad about it but this just make me want to upload my version of it...this song wasnt recorded for my LP> so its not complete > besides i now have way more to say to my man."

Check it out below via Prefix/Rap-Up.

[Watch] Jay-Z Performs at BBC Radio One's Hackney Weekend feat. Rihanna, M.I.A. and Kanye West (FULL SET)

Every now and again you see a live performance that simply knocks your socks off. This was one of those sets. On Saturday evening I sat at home watching Jack White perform prior to Jay-Z's performance being broadcast. Apparently Jay's set was delayed so much because he too was watching Jack White and thoroughly enjoying the set. When the time came, Hova took to the stage with a surprise guest of Rihanna before the crowd seemed to well and truly loose their minds.

As the set progressed, it was hit after hit and for such a large stage he managed to make it look like he was performing in a bedroom. Seriously, how can he do it so effortlessly? A surprise guest in the shape of M.I.A. took to the stage mid-set to perform "Paper Planes" and "Bad Girls" but mic problems meant no-one heard a word of "PP" and "Bad Girls" was pretty lackluster in all honesty. Everything was building up to something. Everybody hoped Kanye would make an appearance but he wasn't announced. The set finished, the stage went black and then "Otis" drops. From here on in it was pure madness. During the second run through of "Niggas In Paris" Jay stopped the set to ask people to open up a "Circle", by which I think he meant a pit but the crowd didn't seem to understand how to do this so well! Still, a great set that can be enjoyed, in full at the top. Look out for Beyonce loosing her mind to "Niggas In Paris" right at the end. Priceless.

[Listen] Rye Rye - "Rock Off Shake Off" Feat. M.I.A.

With word of M.I.A. working on a new album a track featuring her has hit the web. The track, titled "Rock Off Shake Off" comes from Rye Rye who you may remember from a few years ago when she did exactly the same as she's doing here: Appearing from the silence with an M.I.A. track. Not that we're complaining mind you. The track is a big beat that had me bopping along within minutes. It's set to appear on her forthcoming debut, Go! Pop! Bang! which, surprisingly enough, is being released on M.I.A.'s N.E.E.T. Record Label.

Check it out below. (Via Hypetrak)

The original version appeared on that Vicki Leekx mixtape and today you can enjoy the official video for the new version. M.I.A. will also be appearing at half time during the Super Bowl this weekend. Pretty big huh?

The video features some insane driving skills similar to those candid videos you can find on YouTube but this is c-u-razy. Check it out via P4K at the top and if you like it leave it a comment or even a video response as the faves will get shout-outs from the lady hersel on Feb 10th over on http://www.youtube.com/noisey.

[Listen] M.I.A. - "Bad Girls"

Last week we reported that today, M.I.A. would return with a re-working of her Vicki Leekx track "Bad Girls" and as promised, today Pitchfork have premiered it. Head on over there to give it a spin. Glad to have her back?

A video is expected on Friday too along with a possible cameo from M.I.A. at the Super Bowl half time show with Madonna?! I wonder how many crazy colours and internet related images will make an appearance.
